Here are a few common problems and what to do.

(click the problem for the solution)

  1. My dryer heats, but doesn’t seem to dry the clothes.
  2. My electric dryer spins but doesn’t heat.
  3. My newly installed washer won’t fill.
  4. My freezer freezes ice cream, but the milk isn’t very cold.
  5. Everything in my freezer has a layer of frost on it.
  6. My washing machine shakes and “walks” across the floor.
  7. My dishwasher doesn’t drain properly.

If your dryer heats, but doesn’t dry the clothes in a normal amount of time, your dryer or duct may be clogged with lint. First, check the hose on the back of the dryer connected to the wall. Make sure it is not kinked or clogged. If it is clear, check the duct work throught the wall or roof. If these are all clear, you may have an internal lint blockage and need professional help..

If your electric dryer spins, but doesn’t heat, you may have a flipped breaker. THe dryer operates on 220 volts. 110v for the motor and 110v for the heater. Check to make sure both breakers in your switchbox are “on”. If your sure you have good pwer, you will need a serivce tech for any other problem.

If your newly installed washer will not fill, check to make sure the water is turned on first.  Then check to see if the hot and cold water hoses are properly connected. If the hoses are reversed, the washer will not operate properly. Also, check to make sure the screens in the hoses are not clogged.

If your freezer freezes ice cream but items in the fridge are not that cold, it is usually a setting that needs to be adjusted. The best setting for a refrigerator/freezer is in the middle of the dial. Try setting both freezer and refrigerator settings in the middle and check after 24 hours.

If everything in your freezer has a layer of frost on it make sure that the door is closed all the way, all the time. If the door is open at all it will let in small amounts of warm air which will form frost, and raise your electric bill.

If your washing machine shakes and walks across the floor it is probably not level. To level most washers, you must lift both back legs off the ground at the same time and then set the washer back on the legs. they are designed to self-level. If your legs are not self-leveling, you may have to manual adjust the legs. Also make sure all loads are evenly balanced in the washer.

If your dishwasher doesn’t drain properly, it may be a clogged hose. check the hose that connects to the disposal under the sink. If it is clogged, the dishwasher will not drain properly.
